Following an epic performance out of the bullpen for the Florida SouthWestern State Buccaneers last week against Polk State, FSW freshman Brian Holiday has been named the FCSAA Pitcher of the Week in a release by the state on Tuesday.
Holiday was electric out of the Buccaneer bullpen on Wednesday, striking out 12 in five innings of shutout work to help FSW wrap up their third consecutive Suncoast Conference Championship with a 2-1 win over Polk State. Entering in a 1-1 game in the 5th inning, Holiday struck out the first seven Eagles he faced, even recording a four strikeout frame in the 6th.
He is just the second relief pitcher to earn FCSAA Pitcher of the Week honors this year, joining fellow FSW bullpen mate Grant Besser who earned the award in week two of the season.
Holiday has been lights out out of the FSW bullpen this season, pitching in 17 games and going 6-1 with four saves while posting a team best 1.06 ERA in 42 1/3 innings pitched. He has struck out 65 opposing hitters and allowed just 15 free passes on the year.
Holiday and the Bucs are 39-14 on the year and wrapped up their third straight conference title last week.
They will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday when they travel to Bradenton to take on State College of Florida before hosting the first round of the FCSAA State Tournament on May 6-7 when they take on the runners-up from the Southern Conference in a best two out of three series at City of Palms Park in Fort Myers.
