Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball standout Whitney Knight is being inducted into the ASUN Hall of Fame on May 28 in Jacksonville, Florida, as part of the conference’s 11th induction class. The ceremony, which includes other honorees such as Lipscomb’s Madi Talbert Artz, North Florida’s Dallas Moore, and North Alabama’s Ivy Wallen Murks, will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Knight played for FGCU from 2011 to 2016 and becomes the ninth Eagle to receive this honor. She joins previous inductees from various sports including Courtney Platt, Cheyenne Jenks, Carmen Paez (softball), Chris Sale, Casey Coleman, Richard Bleier (baseball), Brooke Youngquist Sweat (volleyball), and Sarah Hansen (women’s basketball).

Knight is recognized as one of the most decorated players in both FGCU and ASUN history. She was a program-defining guard and became the first Eagle selected in the WNBA Draft when she was picked 15th overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2016. Knight also earned Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America recognition during her senior year and was one of 30 national candidates for the NCAA Senior CLASS Award.

During her career at FGCU, Knight was named twice as ASUN Player of the Year (2015, 2016) and earned three First Team All-ASUN selections alongside Sarah Hansen. Her accolades include being named MVP of the 2015 ASUN Tournament and setting a program record with seven ASUN Player of the Week honors. As a senior, she led the conference in blocks (99), steals (64), and three-pointers per game (2.8). She finished her collegiate career with significant statistical achievements including 1,574 points and remains FGCU’s all-time leader in blocks.

The induction marks another milestone for Knight, whose contributions have helped shape FGCU women’s basketball.
