The Sunshine State Conference announced the Players of the Week for the week of January 16 – January 22, on Monday afternoon. Nova Southeastern Sharks student-athletes Madison Frederick (Women’s Basketball), and Will Yoakum (Men’s Basketball) earned honors following their performances over the weekend.  Nova Southeastern Sunshine State Conference Players of the Week awards are presented by Courtyard Marriot.  

Frederick collects her second Player of the Week honor of 2022-23 following an impressive triple double. The forward from Tipp City, Ohio, registered a game-high 21 points, six rebounds, an assist, and a steal during a 78-60 win at Embry-Riddle. Frederick then led NSU to a 79-69 victory over Lynn with a 21-point / 13-assist / 11-rebound triple-double. Frederick is the first Shark to record a triple double since Christen Prasse did it on February 27, 2019, against Palm Beach Atlantic. Frederick averaged 21.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while playing 63 minutes. 

Yoakum earned his first Player of the Week honor this season, following his play in two SSC wins. The Delaware, Ohio product tallied a game-high 29 points in an 88-76 road win at Embry-Riddle. The grad student also had four rebounds, two assists, and two steals on his stat sheet against the Eagles. In a 132-82 win against Lynn, Yoakum recorded a 19-point / 11-rebound double-double in just 21 minutes of action. He also tallied three steals and an assist in the win. He averaged 24.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.5 assists per game while playing 56 minutes.
