Men's Basketball Comes Up Short at Florida Tech

The Barry University men's basketball team fell by one to the Panthers of Florida Institute of Technology, 96-95, at the Clemente Center in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) action Wednesday evening.

  • 1H - James Montgomery led the Buccaneers with 14 points in the opening half. Michael Schaefer's jumper gave Barry had a five-point advantage, 14-9, before Florida Tech took a 23-5 run for a double-digit lead. Sean Houpt led all players with 17 points in the first half as the Panthers had their largest lead, 53-39, trimmed to eight at the break when the Buccaneers finished with a 6-0 spurt in the last 1:06. NOTEWORTHY:

  • Barry made its last four field goal attempts - two buckets by Tyler Hawkins and 3-pointers from Nick Anderson and Jaron Williams.
  • Six Bucs in double figures led by James Montgomery (20 points).
  • Nick Anderson (14), Tyler Hawkins (12), Michael Schaefer (12), Malik Stanley (11), and Jaron Williams (16) also reached double digits.
  • Niall Harris and Michael Schaefer were tops in rebounds for their respective teams, both with seven boards.
  • Buccaneers shot 63 percent (35-for-56) from the floor including 55 percent (11-for-20) from long range.
  • Barry's 20 turnovers led to 33 points for Florida Tech.
  • Sean Houpt led all players with 33 points.
