Wrestling Takes Opening Two Matches over St. Andrews and St. Thomas

The Keiser wrestling won their opening two matches of the season defeating St. Andrews, 50-0, before defeating St. Thomas, 26-18 inside the Student Life Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The highlights of the day came at 133, 141, 184, 197, and 285. At 133, Bryce Cockrell picked up his first wins as a Seahawk with a major decision over Israel Schultz (SAU), 10-1, and a decision over Omar Carrales (STU), 8-3. Patrick Gould showed why he is the No. 11 ranked wrestler in the NAIA as he earned a fall over James Roberts (SAU) at 1:41 and a tech fall over Ali Exalant (STU), 19-4. Jared Tracey took a forfeit win against St. Andrews before earning a huge fall against Shemar Barthelus (STU) in the first period to give the Seahawks a 20-19 lead. After a 1-0 decision win in the first match, Hayden Malson outlasted Jesiah Contreras (STU), 10-7 to give Keiser a 23-18 cushion after a one-point deduction for unsportsmanlike conduct on the St. Thomas bench. If there is a finisher that Keiser can turn to, it's Earnest Johnson at 285. The junior picked up a win by fall against SAU before controlling his match against Jairo Caceres and securing the Keiser win.

The match against St. Andrews was not only the highest-scoring dual in program history for the Seahawks but also the first time that Keiser has shut out an opponent.
