After setting new single season records for doubles (24) and RBIs (55) in 2022, Florida SouthWestern shortstop Jose Izarra made more program history on Tuesday as he became the highest drafted position player in program history when he heard his name called in the 14th round of the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Izarra was a 1st Team All-Conference and 2nd Team All-State selection for the Buccaneers, shattering single season program records with 24 doubles and 55 RBIs in 2022. He played in 51 games at short for FSW, finishing with 33 extra base hits and a 1.036 OPS while also stealing 13 bases. Also a wizard with the glove, Izarra fielded .956 with just eight errors in 182 chances while being a part of 27 double plays for the Bucs.
Izarra becomes the highest drafted position player in FSW history at #435 overall and the sixth Buc to be taken in the MLB Draft in the past two seasons. He is the second FSW player to be taken in the 2022 draft, following behind Bucs ace Magnus Ellerts who went in the 11th round to the Cleveland Guardians Tuesday.
