After a strong performance in the classroom, the FGCU men's tennis team has been named an All-Academic Team as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Additionally, five members of the team – Max Damm, Juan Lopez, Magnus Johnson, Pedro Maciel, and Eric Oncins – were named ITA Scholar-Athletes.
"This was one of the most successful academic years we've ever had!" said head coach CJ Weber. "I'm so proud of the entire team for their extra efforts in the classroom, especially this list of 5 guys who finished the year with above a 3.5 GPA. I'd like to give a special shoutout to our academic advisor Monica Estes, who works so well with all the guys, and she deserves credit for this achievement, almost as much as the players."
The team had a 3.45 GPA for the 2021-22 year, well above the 3.2 threshold needed to earn the All-Academic Team distinction. Individual players needed at least a 3.5 GPA, led by Johnson and Lopez, who each had 3.90 GPAs this year while majoring in Management and Economics, respectively.
Damm had a 3.75 GPA while majoring in Psychology and was recently named the final FGCU Scholar Athlete of the Month for the 2021-22 year. Oncins and Maciel round out the Eagles with 3.67 and 3.59 GPAs majoring in Management and Integrated Studies.
