Nova Southeastern University recently issued the following announcement.

Have a “Reely” Good Time Supporting & Participating in our Two-Day Event

Nova Southeastern University’s (NSU) Halmos College of Arts and Sciences and the Guy Harvey Oceanographic Research Center are proud to present the renewed 2022 NSU Scholarship Fishing Tournament.

The two-day event starts in the evening of Thursday, June 2, 2022, with the Captain’s Meeting & Kick-off Party at the NSU Ocean Campus (Dania Beach, FL). Enjoy drinks, food, a silent auction, and networking together while getting your Fishing Tournament swag and reviewing the tournament rules.

The Fishing Tournament itself starts at 7 a.m. (lines in) on Saturday, June 4, 2022. Participants will target various species in this competition, including mahi, kingfish, tuna, wahoo, cobia, and billfish.

Weigh-in at Pier 66 (Fort Lauderdale) starts at 2:30 p.m., and an Awards Banquet and Dinner will follow.

Become a sponsor, underwriter, or participant in this two-day event today! Benefits vary by category and may include: boat entries in the tournament, tickets to the Captain’s Meeting/Kick-off Party & Awards Banquet/Dinner, recognition in pre-event publicity & print materials, logo recognition on event website, and more (dependent on sponsorship level). NSU’s Fishing Tournament supports student education and research while also promoting conservation by mandated release of all billfishes and the responsible take of fun fish.

Event proceeds, after expenses, go entirely towards the endowed NSU Fishing Tournament Scholarship. This scholarship directly supports marine science students’ education and ocean research! Since 2009, the NSU Fishing Tournament Scholarship has funded seven graduate students researching a variety of marine-related topics, such as billfish identification/validation (genetics), lionfish invasion predictions (modeling), deep-sea fish diet/parasite analyses, coral disease transmission/resistance, and sea turtle tracking/management.
