Sharks Set New Records in Final Day at Spartan Invitational

Nova Southeastern University recently issued the following announcement.

Best, Marquez, and Baxter all set records

Nova Southeastern Men's and Women's Swimming finished competition at the Spartan Invitational on Monday afternoon. The Women's team placed second, recording 963 points, while the Sharks men's team finished third by scoring 794 points. It was another record setting day for NSU, as Celina Marquez made NSU history once again, breaking the oldest record in the Sunshine State Conference, in the 200-backstroke, which was set by Mary O'Sullivan in 2011.  

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Men's Final Team Scoring: Indian River 1143.5, Tampa 1086, Nova Southeastern 794, Saint Leo 352.5, Lenoir-Rhyne 317 

Women's Final Team Scoring: Tampa 1025.5, Nova Southeastern 963, West Florida 510.5, Indian River 441.5, Saint Leo 36.5, Lenoir-Rhyne 139

Location: Doyle Aquatic Center at the Long Center | Clearwater, Fla. 

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Jarryd Baxter set the school record in the 200-backstroke, finishing first with a preliminary time of 1:47.18. 
  • Thomas Flower and Anton Mueller added two top-10 finishes for the Sharks in the 100-freestyle.  

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS 

  • Savanna Best added another victory in the 200-breaststroke, setting the NSU record with a time of 2:13.38. 
  • Marquez's record-setting 200-backstroke was clocked at 1:56.97. 
UPCOMING 

The Sharks will return to the pool in the new year, competing against Tampa and Indian River on Fri., Jan. 7.
