Gilmore's 17 leads way for Nova Southeastern
Nova Southeastern Women's Basketball improved to 7-4 on the 2021 season with a 72-67 victory over Flagler on Wednesday afternoon. The Sharks are currently riding a five-game winning streak against the Saints, dating back to 11/24/2007.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST QUARTER – Makenna Drabick opened the scoring for NSU with a three-pointer to give the Sharks an early lead over the Saints. Grace Gilmore started a 7-0 run for Nova Southeastern, which also featured a three-pointer from Madeline Hardy, extending the NSU advantage to 11-6. With less than three minutes left in the first quarter, McKenah Peters converted an and-one opportunity off an assist from India Shepherd to put the score at 17-12.
2ND QUARTER – Gilmore capped a 7-0 run to start the second quarter with an and-one of her own, as NSU led 26-18. Flagler tied the game at 26, before Shepherd sank two free throws to reclaim the lead for NSU. A 9-0 rally for the Sharks, started by a Peters three-pointer and capped by a Shepherd lay-up, put the score at 37-28 with less than a minute remaining in the first half. Nova Southeastern went into the break leading 42-32.
3RD QUARTER – Following the break, Peters put the Sharks up 45-34 with another three-point make. Flagler cut their deficit to 45-38, when Sh'Naya Anderson added a lay-up for NSU. Keanna Williams added a lay-up make as the Sharks went into the media timeout with a 51-44 advantage. Nova Southeastern finished the third quarter leading 57-51, looking to close out Flagler in the final quarter.
4TH QUARTER – Gilmore notched the first two makes for the Sharks in the fourth, keeping NSU in front 61-55. Flagler cut the Nova Southeastern advantage to two, 61-59, when Peters finished an and-one to give the Sharks some breathing room with less than five minutes remaining in the game. Nova Southeastern led Flagler 68-85 in the final minute of the contest, when India Shepherd raced down the court and stole the ball from the Saints, as the Sharks sealed the 72-67 victory from the free throw line.
STAT OF THE GAME
- NSU outscored Flagler 39-13 off the bench, as Grace Gilmore led the way for Nova Southeastern with 17 points on 6-12 shooting.
Nova Southeastern returns to the Shark Tank to host Dominican (N.Y.) on Sat., Dec. 18. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
