The Keiser women's basketball team continued its hot start to the 2021-22 season picking up the program's 11th win with a 69-56 victory over the Florida National Conquistadors on Tuesday. Remaining perfect at the Student Life Center (7-0), KU equaled the program's best record through 14 games (11-3 in both the 2007-08 season and 2008-09 season).
TURNING POINT
To start the fourth quarter, KU went on a 9-0 run en route to out-scoring the Conquistadors, 20-7 in the final frame.
FIRST QUARTER
Keiser 13, Florida National 9
- The Seahawks fell behind early as FNU jumped out to a 7-2 lead following a fastbreak layup by Delores Charlton with 7:40 on the clock.
- After a jumper by Kaitlyn Fertig made the score 7-4 (7:18), FNU's Natalie Laranaga countered with a bucket of her own to regain a five-point lead, 9-4 (6:48).
- KU went on a 9-0 run to close out the first.
- Shykim Gillion tied the game, 9-9, with a fastbreak layup off a steal by Elliana Schaefer with 3:30 remaining in the quarter.
- Andressa Nascimento capped off the run with a jumper with 00:50 on the clock to make the score, 13-9.
SECOND QUARTER
Keiser 31, Florida National 27
- Angela Denis extended KU's lead to 18-9 with a bucket down low at the 7:41 mark.
- FNU pulled within three, 18-15, with a layup by Adria Stewart with 5:52 left in the half.
- A layup by Elise Ellison-Coons gave the Seahawks a 26-22 advantage with 4:06 on the clock.
- Ellison-Coons then pushed the Keiser lead to 31-24 with a made bucket (1:24).
- FNU scored the final three points of the half as KU enter halftime up, 31-27
THIRD QUARTER
Keiser 49, Florida National 49
- The Conquistadors took the lead with 8:17 left in the third following a pair of made free throws by Stewart.
- Keiser regained its lead with a jumper by Ellison-Cooms at the 6:47 mark.
- Chiara De Virgilio extended KU's lead to seven, 46-39, with 4:21 remaining in the quarter.
- FNU closed out the quarter, drawing even with the Seahawks, 49-49.
FOURTH QUARTER
Keiser 69, Florida National 56
- The fourth quarter was all Seahawks as KU went on an 8-0 run to start the frame.
- De Virgilio gave KU a double-digit lead (63-52) with a fastbreak layup at the 3:22 mark.
- Fertig gave the Seahawks their biggest lead of the game, 67-54, scoring two points with a layup and 1:03 remaining in the game.
- Gillion scored the final basket of the contest with a layup to give KU a 69-56 advantage (00:45).
GAME NOTES
- Keiser improved to 11-3 with the win.
- The 11 wins by the Seahawks are the most by a Keiser team before the New Year.
- The win improved the Seahawks to 5-1 all-time versus Florida National.
- KU improved to 4-0 all-time versus the Conquistadors at the Student Life Center.
- With the win, Keiser remained perfect at home this season, 7-0.
- Keiser has now won five straight over FNU.
- Tuesday marked the eighth time KU has outrebounded its opponent by 10-or-more rebounds this season.
