Men's Basketball's Falls to Hot-Shooting Edward Waters, 84-81

Keiser University Athletics recently issued the following announcement.

GAME INFORMATION

Score: Edward Waters 84, Keiser 81

Records: Keiser (3-4), Edward Waters (4-4)

Location: Student Life Center (West Palm Beach, Fla.)

Keiser Starters: Marco Radulovic (G), Core'von Lott (G), Antwan Claxton (F), Quinton Glaspie (F), Antonio Spencer (C).

Edward Waters Starters: Elias Harden (F), Khalil Brown (F), Chandler Fointno (G), DeAndre Barton (G), Jonathan Kayanga (C).

The Keiser men's basketball team faced a hot-shooting Edward Waters team which drained 55.4 percent of its shots from the floor, including 50.0 percent from 3-point range on Wednesday, dropping an 84-81 decision in the final game of the 2021 Seahawks Thanksgiving Classic. Despite 20-point outings by both Quinton Glaspie (26 points) and Core'von Lott (25 points), the Seahawks were unable to close out this year's Classic with a victory.

TURNING POINT

With KU trailing 81-79 and 28 second left in the game, Edward Waters' Elias Harden was sent to the free-throw line for a 1-and-1 attempt. The Tigers forward missed his first attempt but EWC's Khalil Brown grabbed the offensive board, causing KU's Marko Radulovic to committed a foul and send Brown to the line. The forward hit both of his free throws, extending the Tigers lead to four, 83-79, and making it a two-possession game. 

FIRST HALF

Edward Waters 45, Keiser 39

  • The Tigers took the early lead with a 3-pointer by Elias Harden just one minute into the game.
  • Keiser traded buckets with EWC over the next two minutes.
  • KU tied the game, 7-7, with a 3-pointer by Core'von Lott with 16:54 on the clock.
  • EWC went on an 8-2 run to take a 15-9 lead with 15:37 left in the half.
  • Three straight treys (two by Lott and one by Marko Radulovic) capped off a 9-0 run to give Keiser an 18-15 lead (12:47).
  • After a Quinton Glaspie layup tied the game at 27-all (8:55), Edward Waters pushed its lead to seven following a 7-0 run.
  • A jumper by Jordan Jackson gave the Tigers an 11-point lead, as EWC out-scored the Seahawks, 8-4 over a six minute span.
  • Brown gave the Tigers their biggest lead of the game (12) with a fastbreak dunk with just over two minutes left in the half.
  • Radulovic closed out the half with six straight points for the Seahawks, draining a pair of threes and cutting the Tigers lead to six, 45-39.
SECOND HALF

Edward Waters 84, Keiser 81

  • To start the second half, Glaspie poured in four points with a pair of free throws at the 19:49 mark and a dunk with 19:09 left in the game to cut the deficit to 45-43.
  • A 3-pointer by Jackson pushed the Tigers lead back to six, 54-58 (16:49).
  • KU pulled within four a couple of times in the first 10 minutes of the half but EWC responded with timely buckets to extend its lead. 
  • The Tigers made it a 10-point game after a 3-pointer by Chandler Fointno with 9:02 remaining. 
  • Shaquille Harris and Glaspie combined for six straight point to pull KU with four, 71-67 (5:58).
  • Harris converted a pair of free throw with 4:31 left to cut EWC's lead to three, 74-71.
  • After falling behind 79-72, Lott made it a one-possession game, hitting on back-to-back buckets (a jumper at 2:03 and a 3-pointer at 1:34) to make the score 79-77.
  • A Glaspie layup with 33 second left once again pulled KU with in two, 81-79.
  • An offensive rebound off a miss on the front end of a 1-and-1 by the Tigers sent Khalil Brown to the line where the EWC forward hit both of his shots to push the lead to 83-79.
  • After a made free throw gave the Tigers a five-point lead, Lott scored his 25th point of the game on a layup with one second left, 84-81.
 GAME NOTES

  • With the loss, Keiser drops to 3-4 on the year.
  • Wednesday marked the 20th meeting between the two teams.
  • With the loss, the Seahawks are now 16-4 all-timer versus the Tigers.
  • Keiser is now 11-4 all-time versus Edward Waters at the Student Life Center.
  • Loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for the Seahawks over the Tigers.
  • Three Seahawks scored in double-figures on Wednesday (Quinton Glaspie - 26; Core'von Lott - 25;  Shaquille Harris - 12).
  • Scoring in double-figures, Lott has now scored 10-or-more points with Keiser 32 times.
  • Lott's 25 points marked his 15th 20-point outing as a member of the Keiser men's basketball team.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • The Seahawks ended the game, shooting 42.9 percent from the floor (24-of-56) and were 10-of-23 (43.5 percent) from beyond the arc.
  • The 10 treys made by the Seahawks were a season high.  
  • Edward Waters ended the night, shooting 55.4 percent from the field (31-of-56) and converted 50.0 percent (11-of-22) from downtown.
  • The Tigers accounted for 33 points from 3-point range. 
  • The Tigers' shooting percentage (55.4) is the highest by a Keiser opponent this season. 
  • Quinton Glaspie scored a game-high 26 points on 7-of-12 shooting (12-of-15 from the free-throw line).
  • The 26 points were a career high for the product of Detroit, Michigan.
  • Core'von Lott posted a season-high in points with 25 versus the Tigers (one day after scoring 24 versus Arizona Christian).
  • Shaquille Harris led the Seahawks with nine rebounds (five on the offensive glass).
  • Glaspie added seven boards (three offensive).
  • The Seahawks out-rebounded the Tigers, 33-30, and held a 12-6 edge on the offensive glass.
  • KU made a season-high 31 trips to the charity stripe, converting 23 (74.2 percent). 
  • Leading the way for the Seahawks was Glaspie, who went 12-of-15 from the line.
