No. 2 women's soccer began their NAIA National Championship run with 3-0 win over College of Idaho on Thursday afternoon in the NAIA National Championship opening round, presented by Select Sport America. Larissa Weber chipped in with two assists on two Ramona Kannady goals to lead the Seahawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
.Ramona Kannady kicked off the scoring for the Seahawks in the 24th minute to put KU up 1-0.
The Seahawks controlled the pace of the game through the last 21 minutes, going into the half with the 1-0 lead.
Keiser took no time to get the second half started with Kyoka Koshijima weaving through defenders and firing a shot passed the keeper just 62 seconds into the second half.
The lone chance for the Yotes came off the foot Lily Schlake in the 68th minute, but Grace McClellan was up to the task making the sure handed save.
In the 85th minute, a pass from Larissa Weber led Kannady to her second goal of the afternoon on a one-on-one opportunity with the keeper to give KU the 3-0 advantage.
The Seahawks defense wrapped up their 10th shutout of the season as the time ran out on the clock.
GAME NOTES
The Seahawks moved to 26-11-2 in postseason play, holding a 13-2 record in opening round contests.
Saturday marked the first meeting between the two teams.
Kannady's two goals stretched her team-lead in goals with her 10th and 11th of the season.
Koshijima secured her ninth goal of the year to tie with Kannady atop the points leaderboard with 27.
McClellan picked up her 14th career shutout of her career.
The two assists by Weber tied a career best mark and moved her into second place with eight on the year.
KU out-shot the Yotes on the day by a margin of 17.
