Watts, Sharks Earn Program’s First Trip to NCAA Tournament

3

Nova Southeastern University recently issued the following announcement.

NSU selected as the No. 7 seed in Super Region 2, set to meet Coker in opening round

Following their historic run through the Sunshine State Conference Tournament over the weekend, the Nova Southeastern men's soccer team made more history on Monday, as the Sharks were selected to the program's very first NCAA Tournament.

As the automatic qualifier from the SSC, head coach Matt Watts' club earned the No. 7 seed in Super Region 2, which is made up of members from the SSC, Conference Carolinas, Gulf South, Peach Belt, and South Atlantic Conferences.

Their first-round opponent? The Sharks will face No. 10 seed, and SAC Tournament champion, Coker this Friday at 3 p.m. in West Palm Beach, Fla.

NSU will enter the NCAA Tournament on a current nine-game unbeaten streak, including three consecutive wins in the SSC Tournament in which it outscored its opponents by a combined margin of 9-2. What makes that mark even more impressive, though, is the fact that the two most recent victories both came on the road and against the No. 2 and No. 9 teams in the nation in Palm Beach Atlantic and Tampa.

Both PBA and Tampa were the other two SSC programs to qualify for the NCAA Tournament, as the Sailfish collected the No. 2 seed in the 10-team super regional and will host NSU's half of the bracket, while Tampa secured the No. 4 seed on the other side of the bracket, set to be hosted by top-seeded Young Harris.

West Florida, Auburn-Montgomery, Chowan, Limestone and Lenior-Rhyne round out the remainder of Super Region 2.

The winner of NSU and Coker will advance to play PBA on Sunday at 3 p.m.
