School District of Lee County issued the following announcement on Nov. 10.

Congratulations to Cape Coral High School Athletic Director Thomas Kenna for his election to the Florida High School Athletic Association Board of Directors. Kenna is the first Athletic Director from Lee County to have a seat on the FHSAA Board.

“I am very grateful and excited for the opportunity to represent the FHSAA Section 3 public schools as a newly elected Board Member,” Kenna says. “This is a high honor and I will work tirelessly to fulfill the duties associated with being a Board Member.”

Kenna is in his seventh year as the CCHS Athletic Director and has been involved in youth, high school, and college athletics since 1999. He will attend his first meeting November 14th and 15th in Gainesville. His term will end in June of 2022.

The FHSAA, through the cooperative efforts of its member schools, provides opportunities for high school students in Florida to participate on a fair and equitable basis in interscholastic athletic programs that produce vital educational benefits. The FHSAA sponsors over 3,500 championship series games through which 144 teams, and 294 individuals are crowned state champions in 32 sports each year.

Lee County School Board member Chris Patricca is also a current member of the FHSAA Board of Directors.

The FHSAA Board of Directors is the executive authority of the Association. It is composed of 16 individuals: four elected public school representatives, four elected private school representatives, two elected district school superintendents, two elected district school board members, three representatives appointed by the Commissioner of Education, and the Commissioner of Education or his/her designated representative.
