Sharks Finish 10th at Copperhead Championship

Nova Southeastern University issued the following announcement on Oct. 19.

Mike Hay leads the team with a tie for 13th

In the first tournament of the season away from their home course, the Nova Southeastern men's golf team placed 10th at the Copperhead Championship, hosted by West Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Following a promising finish to Monday's second round, the Sharks struggled on Tuesday, posting a team score of (+16) 300 to drop from sixth into 10th on the final leaderboard.

Lander (+16) overcame a three-shot deficit, defeating Saint Leo, Barry and Lincoln Memorial by six strokes to earn the tournament title.

Mike Hay and Joseba Torres matched each other with team-best rounds of (+2) 73 on Tuesday. Hay concluded the week tied for 13th at six-over par, while Torres' 54-hole score of 11 over landed him with a share of 38th.

Javier Calles (+7) placed tied for 19th overall, while freshman Josep Serra finished tied for 45th at 13-over par.

Jonny Cachon (+20) wrapped up play tied for 73rd.

STATS OF THE DAY:

Hay posted a quality Par-3 scoring average of 2.93 for the tournament.

Hay's combined 38 pars were a team high, with Calles leading the way for the Sharks with 10 total birdies.

Tuesday's overall scoring average was 75.28.

BEYOND THE SCORECARD:

Lincoln Memorial's Luke Harries earned individual medalist honors, finishing as the only player in red numbers at three-under par.
