Volleyball Downs Ave Maria in Five-Set Thriller

Keiser University Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 6.

Match Score: Keiser 3, Ave Maria 2

Set Scores: 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 27-29, 15-13

Records: Keiser (14-16, 4-2 SUN), Ave Maria (11-7, 3-3 SUN)

Location: Student Life Center, West Palm Beach, Fla.

The Keiser volleyball team downed the Ave Maria Gryenes in a thrilling five-set match, 3-2, on Wednesday night. The win marked the fifth straight home victory for the Seahawks. 

 KEY STATS

2: The Seahawks had two individuals register 20-or-more kills in the match (Ryelle Cox - 22; Anna Lea Kuster - 21)

4: Wednesday's match was the fourth five-set match of the season for KU. The Seahawks improved to 2-2 in five-set matches this season (2-0 in league action).

5: Five Seahawks reached double-figures in digs versus AMU (Ryelle Cox - 10; Brooklyn VandeHei - 16; Hannah Heide - 13; Erika Magin - 29; Samantha Lopez Cruz - 12). 

5: Wednesday marked the team's fifth straight win at home.

8: Erika Magin reached the 20-dig plateau for the eight time in 2021, leading KU with 29 versus the Gyrenes.

10: The victory on Wednesday was the 10th straight home win for the Seahawks over Ave Maria.

21: The 21 kills by Anna Lea Kuster set a career mark for the first-year Seahawk.

22: The 22 kills by Ryelle Cox was a career high.

22: Wednesday was the 22nd win all-time for the Seahawks over the Gyrenes (22-9)

35: Brooklyn VandeHei led KU with 35 assists in the match - a season-high. Freshman Hannah Heide also recorded 30 assists, posting 33 during Wednesday's match.

91: The Seahawks notched a season-high 91 digs on Wednesday.

333: Cassie Cox led the team in hitting percentage, posting .333 (13 kills on 30 total attempts).
