Inclement Weather Forces Cancellation of Men's Soccer Match at UAB

6

Florida Gulf Coast University Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 6.

Due to heavy rains and lightning in the Birmingham area, Wednesday night's FGCU men's soccer match at UAB was cancelled after a weather delay with 28:43 remaining in the first half.

Neither team had scored at that point and because the match had not reached the minimum time to be counted, it will simply be a no contest for both sides.

Weather originally delayed the start of the match to approximately 6:30 PM ET. Shortly after kickoff, heavy rain bands moved through the area drenching the field. The field was then cleared and the game put in a delay when lightning was detected in the area. It was officially cancelled just after 8 PM.

"We're disappointed to not be able to complete the game tonight due to weather, I feel like this team is making constant progress and working towards our peak," said head coach Jesse Cormier. "We still utilized this trip to build us closer and build our unity as we progress towards our big ASUN matchups."

The Eagles (1-6-1, 1-2-0 ASUN) will return home to host Bellarmine (5-4-1, 1-2-0 ASUN) on Saturday evening as FGCU returns to ASUN play. The match is slated for a 7 PM start and it will be a Pink Out game to support cancer awareness and research. Tickets are available by calling 866-FGCU-TIX, online at www.FGCUTickets.com, or on game day at the gate.
