Sharks Ranked for First Time Since 2009

Nova Southeastern University Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 27.

NSU Checks in at 23rd in AVCA Poll

The American Volleyball Coaches' Association released its fourth poll of the 2021 season this evening and the Nova Southeastern Sharks have made their way into the rankings for the first-time since 2009. NSU checks into the rankings at 23rd after previously only receiving votes early on this season.

Head Coach Brian Rosen in his second season, but third year, at the helm of the Sharks has led the program on a remarkable rebound in his time and has led NSU back into the national spotlight. "Being ranked has never been our focus, but this is a great honor for our program and a testament to the work we are putting in each and every day to get better," said Rosen. "When our coaching staff took over in 2019, being a top-25 seemed like an out-of-reach goal to many but our student-athletes believed in what they could accomplish together by creating the right culture."

The rankings come in the midst of the second-longest winning streak in program history, as Nova Southeastern has won 17 consecutive matches dating back to 2019. NSU currently sits at 11-0 on the 2021 season with four wins in Sunshine State Conference play. The Sharks have only dropped three sets in the 11 matches this season and have recorded match sweeps in nine games this year.

Rosen continued, "this ranking started when we won our last six matches in 2019 and continued when we couldn't even play another opponent in 2020. Coach Selene [Teitelbaum] and I could not be more proud of the amazing young women in our Shark Volleyball Family. The future is bright!"

Nova Southeastern is currently tied for first in the Sunshine State Conference with Embry-Riddle and Tampa, and will host the Eagles of Embry-Riddle in an important SSC match on Thurs., Sept. 30, from the Rick Case Arena at 7 p.m.
