Boothe Family Scholarship Becomes Endowment at NFC

2

North Florida College recently issued the following announcement.

In March 2020, Darvin Boothe, a 1967 graduate of North Florida Junior College, and his wife Christine Boothe established the Boothe Family Scholarship at the North Florida College Foundation. The scholarship is designed to encourage and assist students who are the first in their families to enroll in college as they take the first step toward a brighter future.

The NFC Foundation is honored to announce that Darvin and Christine have recently made an additional donation to establish the Boothe Family Scholarship Endowment. As an endowment, the Boothe Family legacy will continue at NFC as a perpetual gift to students striving to reach their global and education goals.

The endowment is established in memoriam of Darvin’s parents Alvin and Lois Boothe, of Greenville, Florida. Growing up in Alabama as second-generation sharecroppers, Darvin’s parents had limited opportunities for education.

As the eldest son, Darvin became the first in the family to graduate high school and received a scholarship to attend North Florida Junior College, where he earned an Associate in Arts degree. Darvin would go on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Florida State University and a Master of Science degree in educational administration and supervision from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.

Boothe emphasizes, “NFJC changed the trajectory of my life and the lives of my children.  I hope the Boothe Family Scholarship will do the same for other deserving students.”

After completing his education, Boothe enjoyed a 45-year career in education, serving as teacher, coach, assistant principal, and principal, and later became a district office administrator, labor negotiator, state lobbyist and executive director of an educational administrative association.

NFC Director of Resource Development, Judy Lundell recognizes the crucial role that donors play in student lives, stating, “Over the past year the NFC Foundation has been able to award over 450 scholarships for all programs of study from Associate in Science degrees like Accounting Technology to certificates in Early Childhood Education. Without donations from community partners and alumni like Mr. Boothe, we would not be able to make such a significant impact on students who are achieving their dreams of an education, successful career, and financial security.”
