FGCU Athletics to Begin Beer and Wine Sales at Home Events

4

Florida Gulf Coast University Athletics issued the following announcement on Aug. 31.

Beginning this September, the FGCU Department of Athletics will begin sales of beer and wine at home events on campus. The first event to feature beer and wine sales will be announced in the near future.

FGCU fans aged 21-and-over will be able to purchase imported and domestic beers along with white and red wines. These items will be available at Alico Arena, Swanson Stadium, the FGCU Soccer Complex, and the Softball Complex. Additionally, select service may be added on individual event basis at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

"For over a decade, we have witnessed alcohol sales successfully managed at a number of our fellow Florida SUS institutions," said Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh. "Hence, we feel comfortable with this decision and believe that it will provide an opportunity to enhance the overall game day experience for many of our fans. In turn, it will be done with procedures designed to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all of our spectators."

There will be a two-alcoholic beverage purchase limit per event with valid identification being required. The service will be discontinued during the later stages of events with specific time frames displayed at each venue.

FGCU Athletics and the University promote the responsible consumption of alcohol. Event staff and security will monitor fan behavior and take appropriate action if needed.

Tickets are now on sale for women's soccer, men's soccer and volleyball, while season tickets and mini-plans are available for purchase for both men's and women's basketball. All tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.FGCUTickets.com, calling 866-FGCU-TIX, or by visiting the Alico Arena Ticket Office during business hours.
