Florida Gulf Coast University Athletics recently issued the following announcement.
After picking up its first win of the season, the FGCU women's soccer team looks to make it two in a row as the Eagles host the Lynn Fighting Knights on Thursday evening. Kickoff from Pickering Field at the FGCU Soccer Complex is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed through Facebook Live
In their 4-0 home-opening win over Tampa on Sunday, four different Eagles found the back of the net. Redshirt junior Courtney Coleman (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community HS/UMass Lowell) and junior Grace Paradis (Kingston, N.H./Sanborn HS/St. John's) each scored for the first time wearing the Green and Blue, while sophomore Louise Lillback (Stockholm, Sweden/Tibble Gynmasium) and freshman Ashley Labbe (Lake Worth, Fla./Suncoast HS) added to their career totals with one goal apiece.
Around the ASUN, four teams, including FGCU, picked up wins on Sunday. Jacksonville and Lipscomb each collected their second wins of the season with victories over FIU and Austin Peay, respectively, while Jacksonville State defeated Jackson State for its first win as an ASUN member since rejoining the conference.
For Lynn, this will be an exhibition match, its second of the fall, having fallen to FIU, 2-1, on August 16. The Fighting Knights did not play last season, but do return a couple of solid players from a 2019-20 team that went 7-8-3. Junior Anniina Sankoh returns after leading the Sunshine State Conference in goals with 19 and points with 43. Lynn will also trot out 17 newcomers, including Sofia Manner, a two-time America East Goalkeeper of the Year at Stony Brook, and Emma Nuutinen, an Olympic bronze medalist for Finland in Ice Hockey.
Thursday's match will be just the second time these two programs have faced each other. The first came in 2012 when the Eagles won, 7-0.
