City of Fort Myers issued the following announcement on July 22.

The City of Fort Myers is in the process of developing the Fiscal Year 2021-2022 Second Program Year Annual Action Plan to detail the proposed use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program funds.  The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allocates approximately $625,000 in grants funds to the City’s CDBG program each year.  The funds are used to develop stronger communities by providing decent housing, creating suitable living environments, and expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- to moderate income persons that reside within the City limits.

Every five years the City completes the Consolidated Plan, which describes the needs and available resources for affordable housing and development in the community.  The plan also establish the priorities and strategies to meet those needs.  These needs are carried out through the Annual Action Plan, which provides a concise summary of the actions, activities and specific federal and non-federal resources that will be used every year to address the priority needs and specific goals.  The City will focus on housing, and economic development.

The City strives for community-wide participation. All comments will be considered in the plan.
