BARRY UNIVERSITY: Congratulations on your Retirement Dr. Catherine Waltz

Tulsa

Barry University issued the following announcement.

Dr. Catherine Waltz, PhD, LCSW, has been a member of Barry University School of Social Work’s part-time faculty since August 2013, but she has been a part of Barry University’s family since she graduated from the School of Social Work’s PhD program in 1994.  Dr. Waltz’ area of practice and expertise is in domestic violence, trauma, and loss.   She has been recognized both locally and nationally as an expert in domestic violence and trauma, and was awarded the National Association of Social Workers Social Worker of the Year in 1996.

As an educator, Dr. Waltz has shared her expertise and skills with students taking Psychopathology, Introduction to Trauma and Resilience, Advanced Clinical Practice in Social Work with Individuals and Evaluation of Clinical Social Work Practice.  However, Dr. Waltz has also facilitated many seminars for the School of Social Work students and external community on the aforementioned areas, but also including clinical licensing, clinical hypnotherapy and trauma resolution.

With all of these accomplishments, we especially want to recognize Dr. Waltz for the development of the School of Social Work’s Good Writing with Dr. Waltz program.  The purpose of this program was to provide support to all School of Social Work students in the development of professional writing and critical thinking skills. Dr. Waltz was in constant demand, and her support and intervention not only transformed student’s skill sets in the classroom, but students reported that it transformed their  writing skillsets in the workplace and internships as well; so much so that several credited their promotions at work partially due to what they learned in participating in the Good Writing program with Dr. Waltz!

Her depth of kindness, caring and willing to care for her students, the profession of social work and her community will be a legacy that will continue at the School of Social Work.  Dr. Waltz, we want to express our gratitude and affection for you.

We will miss you, and we are BARRY Thankful!
