“See it, say it, make the call. It works,” stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “A student saw a red flag and didn’t ignore it. The tipster is a true hero.”
On August 11, 2022, a student approached a staff member at South Fort Myers High School about seeing an Instagram video depicting a fellow student flashing a firearm.
School administration along with LCSO conducted an administrative search of 17-year-old Omarion Lavoile’s car in the parking lot. During the search, a loaded 9mm handgun was located under the driver’s seat. School administration immediately notified the School Resource Officer. The weapon was secured and detectives from our Youth Services Division responded to assume the investigation.
It was also determined the located firearm was stolen during a burglary last month in Lehigh Acres. That case is still under investigation.
Ultimately, Lavoile was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds, trading his pen and paper for a pair of handcuffs and a stay in the Marceno Motel.
