The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) named its 2021-22 Scholar All-America Teams on Wednesday afternoon, recognizing Nova Southeastern as one of the premier academic institutions in the country. NSU also had 17 student-athletes honored as Academic All-Americans by the association.
“I want to congratulate our team on another strong year in the classroom. They excelled in multiple areas academically and made great use of their resources throughout the year,” said Head Coach Ben Hewitt. “I’m delighted to have the support of Rachel Fineberg and Dr. Deanna Rivero, who both work diligently to keep our student-athletes on track and pursuing academic excellence.”
To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes earned a minimum GPA of 3.5 and participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections also earned a 3.50 GPA or higher and achieved a “B” time standard for the national championship or participated at a diving zone qualification meet. CSCAA Executive Director had this to say about Nova Southeastern, “Coach Hewitt develops student-athletes both in the water and in the classroom.”
From the women’s side, Estelle Bauer (Exercise Science), Celina Marquez (Accounting), Amilia Nusbaum (Neuroscience), Neta Shiff (Computer Science), and Cassandra Wright (Management & Entrepreneurship) earned First-Team Academic All-American honors, while Laurel Gallaudet (Communications), Maeve Hunt (Environmental Science), Allison Kopas (Curriculum, Instruction & Technology), and Carin Sanchez (Psychology) were named to the second-team.
Steven Aimable (Management & Entrepreneurship), Luca Alessandrini (International Business), Thomas Flower (Exercise), Spencer Hohm (Neuroscience), Robert Spekis (Marine Biology), Olle Williamsson (Psychology), Matthew Gush (Second-Team/Entrepreneurship), and Evan Weber (Second-Team/Biochemical Engineering) were honored for Sharks men’s swimming.
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), is the nation’s first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development.
