During the first quarter of 2026, Life Care Center of Estero was identified as the third largest nursing home in Lee County, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.

The facility offered 155 available beds, surpassing the Lee County average by 45 during the first quarter of 2026. On average, it served 145.2 residents throughout that timeframe.

Life Care Center of Estero received an overall CMS rating of 5 out of 5, topping Florida’s average nursing home rating of 3.3.

Within the quarter, Page Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center and Larsen Health Center held the top spots as the largest nursing homes in Lee County, each providing 180 beds.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the country’s older adult population continues to expand while younger groups decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, there was a 13% rise in Americans age 65 and older, and a 1.7% decline in those under 18. Over the past 100 years, the older adult population in the United States rose from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study estimated nearly half of this age group—about 28 million people—may need long-term services and supports, with projections indicating more than a third could eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
