Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball head coach Raina Harmon announced on May 19 the signing of Amelia Hobson, a transfer from North Dakota State University, completing the Eagles’ roster for the 2026-27 season.
The addition of Hobson is intended to provide experience and versatility to the team. Harmon said, “Amelia is a long, versatile player who can operate as both a guard and a forward, giving us valuable lineup flexibility. She stretches the floor, creates matchup problems for opposing defenses, and strengthens us on the glass. Her ability to guard multiple positions makes her an elite defender.”
Hobson joins other transfer portal additions Graca Barbosa, Denika Lightbourne, and Lily Zeinstra. The incoming recruiting class features freshmen Elle McCulloch and Ari Turla. Returning players include Cerina Rolle, Karina Gordon, Sinai Douglas, Jalei Pillow, Shameir Quimby, Airah Lavy, and Eve Alexander.
A junior guard/forward from Melbourne, Australia and Parkdale Secondary College graduate, Hobson played two seasons at North Dakota State University. In her sophomore year (2025-26), she appeared in all 33 games with averages of 14.4 minutes per game while contributing across several statistical categories including shooting percentages of 33 percent from the field and 25.7 percent from three-point range.
As a freshman (2024-25), she played in most games off the bench with improved shooting numbers including nearly forty percent from the field and over eighty-three percent at the free throw line.
Hobson said that her decision was influenced by “the coaching staff, the relationships they built with her throughout the recruiting process,” as well as “the development plan they laid out for her future.”
