The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s golf team is in 11th place after the opening round of the Marana Regional, which took place on May 18 at The Gallery Golf Club.

This result places the Eagles behind leaders Arizona and Oklahoma State, who are tied for first. The performance in this regional tournament is important as it determines advancement opportunities for teams and individual players.

Sacha Ruiz led the Eagles individually with a score of one-over-par 73, tying him for 32nd overall. Brett Moore followed closely with a two-over-par 74, tying for 37th. Christian Figueredo and Sebastian Gamboa each finished at three-over-par 75, while Nolan Harper rounded out the lineup with a four-over-par 76. Ruiz started strong with early birdies but faced challenges mid-round before recovering on the back nine to finish with five birdies total. Moore was consistent throughout his round, making one birdie and recording fourteen pars—tied for second most among all players.

Figueredo encountered trouble midway through his front nine but managed to recover some ground on the back nine with two birdies. Gamboa had an impressive start but struggled during the closing holes due to double bogeys and finished tied with Figueredo. Harper faced difficulties early but showed resilience by making a birdie on hole fourteen; he also tallied thirteen pars during his round.

The team’s combined total of fifty-nine pars ranks second among all teams after day one of competition.

Looking ahead, Florida Gulf Coast will return to The Gallery Golf Club for round two on Tuesday morning, paired alongside West Virginia and San Diego State. Tee time is set for 8:25 a.m. local time (11:25 a.m Eastern Time).
