Florida Gulf Coast University announced on May 7 that its baseball team will host its final Atlantic Sun Conference home series of the season against West Georgia. The three-game series is scheduled at Swanson Stadium in Fort Myers, with games set for Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 5 p.m., and Sunday at 11 a.m. The Senior Ceremony will take place before Sunday’s game, beginning at 10:15 a.m.
The event includes several promotions, such as Spring Cleaning Weekend on Friday and Fan Appreciation Day on Saturday. Each day features free Nutrl with the purchase of a beer. Tickets are available for those who want to attend in person, and all games will be streamed live on ESPN+.
This series carries important implications for both teams in the conference standings. FGCU currently leads Jacksonville by just half a game for second place in the Atlantic Sun Conference’s Graphite Division. Securing second place would provide FGCU with a one-round bye in the upcoming ASUN Tournament, while West Georgia is seeking to secure a postseason berth.
Key players expected to start include right-handed pitcher Evan Dempsey for FGCU on Friday, who holds a record of four wins and two losses with an earned run average of 3.39. Dempsey has been named a semifinalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player Award and has recorded 97 strikeouts this season—ranking him eleventh nationally and first within the conference.
The Eagles’ offense also features strong performances from hitters like Javier Gorostola, who ranks twenty-first nationally in hits and leads the conference in batting average (.387), hits (72), RBIs (56), and total bases (124). Three FGCU hitters are ranked among the top eighty nationally for hits.
The university encourages fans to support their team during this pivotal weekend as it may influence postseason positioning.
