Florida Gulf Coast University’s distance runners will compete in their final spring season event at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta on Friday night, according to an April 16 announcement from the university.
The meet marks a significant opportunity for both men’s and women’s teams to improve personal records as they conclude their spring campaign. The women’s 5,000-meter race is scheduled for 9:10 p.m., followed by the men’s race at 9:30 p.m. Live results will be available online.
Addison Torres leads the FGCU women’s squad, having recently run a season-best time of 18:00.60 in the 5K at the UCF Black & Gold Invite on March 20. This performance was just five seconds shy of her career-best mark set last year. Tess Schultz will also represent FGCU after achieving a personal record of 18:24.10 earlier this season.
On the men’s side, Innocent Ntwali aims to surpass his current season-best time of 14:38.92, which he recorded with a third-place finish at the Tampa Spartans Open on February 21. Ntwali’s career-best stands at 14:34.78 from last year, and he hopes to set a new personal record during Friday’s competition.
Teammates Evan Casterline and Jacob Leon have each achieved personal bests in the event this year—Casterline with a time of 14:55.69 and Leon with a mark of 15:01.49—and both are looking to improve further during this final meet.
