Florida Gulf Coast men’s basketball head coach Pat Chambers announced on May 27 the addition of FGCU alumni and former Florida SouthWestern head coach Darrin Wallace to the Eagles’ coaching staff ahead of the 2026-27 season.
“We are thrilled to add Darrin Wallace to our staff,” Chambers said. “Darrin has proven himself as an outstanding head coach, recruiter, and mentor throughout his career. His ability to develop players, build meaningful relationships, and connect within the community makes him a tremendous addition to our program. He understands the culture of Southwest Florida and brings valuable experience that will positively impact our student-athletes both on and off the court.”
Wallace said, “I’m honored to be joining coach Pat Chambers’ staff and the FGCU basketball family. This program has a strong tradition of success, and I’m excited to work alongside an outstanding staff and talented group of student-athletes. I’m eager to contribute in every way possible as we pursue championships.”
Wallace returns for his third stint at FGCU after previously serving as video coordinator in 2010-11 and playing during the inaugural season in 2002-03. Most recently, he spent two years as head coach at Florida SouthWestern State College (FSW), where he was named Citrus Conference Coach of the Year for 2025-26 with a record of 41-18 overall, including a conference championship season.
Prior to his role as FSW’s head coach, Wallace served two seasons as assistant coach there, helping guide teams that reached consecutive FCSAA State Tournaments while sending multiple players on to NCAA Division I programs. Earlier in his career, Wallace coached at Canterbury School—earning Class 3A FABC Coach of the Year honors—and worked with several high-profile AAU teams across major circuits.
As a player, Wallace competed at Hillsborough Community College before finishing his collegiate career at Pfeiffer University and then transferring for his senior year at FGCU during its inaugural men’s basketball season.
