The NFC Foundation recently received an additional donation to the John Earl Loughridge Scholarship Endowment. Originally established in 1996 by his wife, Memorie, the Loughridge Endowment was designed to assist rural students who demonstrate promise in achieving higher education.

John Loughridge spent most of his life in Taylor County, Florida. He died in Lafayette County on October 8, 2004. This scholarship honors the memory of John with a perpetual gift to students in Lafayette and Taylor counties who are attending North Florida College.

The scholarship is awarded this year to the following graduating seniors: Lafayette County resident Anna Deadwyler, and Taylor County resident Ella Holley.

During her time at Lafayette High School, Anna has excelled academically while also participating in student council, Beta Club, and serving as the treasurer and student advisor for Future Farmers of America (FFA). She hopes to complete her Associate in Arts (AA) degree at North Florida College, and continue her education in the healthcare field to one day become a nurse practitioner.

At Taylor County High School, Ella has distinguished herself as President of the National Honor Society (NHS), Student Council, and Little Women organization. She has also participated in varsity tennis and cheerleading.

“I am eternally grateful and honored to receive this year’s John Loughridge Scholarship. It has impacted my family greatly,” said Ella. She hopes to complete her Associate in Arts (AA) degree at North Florida College, and continue her education in film studies at a university.

It is hard for many students in our community to imagine college as a reality, but the NFC Foundation is proud to offer many scholarships like the John Earl Loughridge Endowment that help students take their next step towards success.
